De wereld van de waterontharders (1/3): de basis

The world of water softeners (1/3): the basics

A lot is claimed in the world of water softeners, so you can quickly lose sight of the wood for the trees. You run the risk of paying too much, or having a picture of resin and salt that isn't quite right. That's why we cover, in three parts, what you want to know before buying a water softener.

Every water softener consists of three parts: the resin column (the tank with resin beads), the brine tank, and the control unit with the valve.

Once a water softener is installed, every tap in the house is free of limescale. Sometimes we hear that people like to keep a little hardness in the water — some suppliers even advise it. That idea often stems from the thought that a slight hardness (around 2 dH) would be good for your body's calcium intake. But you get calcium from your food, not from drinking water. So there's no problem at all with setting your system to 0 dH.
